WELCOMEPROJECTS is the studio of Laurel Consuelo Broughton and focused on the production of discursive sensibilities in architecture, design, and fashion.
WELCOMEPROJECTS designs WELCOMECOMPANIONS, a collection of sartorial accessories and objects for everyday play. Launched in 2011 WELCOMECOMPANIONS has been featured in numerous publications including Paper Magazine, Elle Italia, Newsweek, Marie Claire Italia, Lucky Magazine and Nylon Magazine among others.
A native Angeleno, Laurel is a designer and academic who explores her interests in narrative, material culture, craft, and style within design, fashion, and architecture through projects, publications, and collaborations at a multiplicity of scales. The object as form and cultural figure features broadly throughout all her work. She received her Bachelor of Arts from New York University (NYU) in Comparative Literature and Critical Theory and her Masters of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI_arc). As adjunct design faculty at the University of Southern California, School of Architecture she teaches core design studios that focus on the development of design strategies that merge site and material exploration into conceptual and comprehensive design projects. She has worked with artists and architects in Los Angeles and New York. Prior to her architectural training, Laurel was managing editor at the art and art world chronicle, zingmagazine in New York City.
